What is an ergonomic desk?
In short, an ergonomic desk is a type of desk that is designed to provide maximum comfort and efficiency to its users while minimizing the risk of strain or injury. Ergonomic desks are typically adjustable in height and allow the user to set the desk at a comfortable height, reducing strain on the back, neck, and shoulders.

In addition, ergonomic desks often feature adjustable keyboard trays and monitor stands to promote proper posture and reduce the risk of repetitive strain injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome as well.

This may not be something that is readily considered when it comes to a desk however they do actually take quite a beating during day to day use. Things are dropped and dripped on them all day as well as them being moved around and kicked underneath.
Look then for a desk that is built of solid materials such as a metal base and wooden top. These will give your desk the best chance of standing up to daily wear and tear as well.
Lifting capacity
As above, a good ergonomic desk contains the ability to adjust its height to meet the seating needs of the user. And in most cases, this is undertaken by one or two electric motors.
Just keep in mind however that these motors are always limited as to the amount of weight that they can safely lift. This means that you will need to consider just how much stuff you plan to put on your desk such as extra monitors, printers, microphones and of course, books and papers as they all add up.
Stands and Trays
Some desks come with such extra as keyboard stands and trays for papers and office stationary (paper clips etc.) included. These can assist simply by reducing the amount twisting and bending you need to do as well as giving extra adjustment capabilities for your keyboard as well.
