Hey there fellow sea changers. In a few previous posts we have discussed the importance of accurate niche selection when it comes to affiliate marketing. And as we start this journey, the selection of a good niche is something that can be quite daunting so today I am going to discuss with you the 5 Best Niches for Affiliate Marketing in 2022. We will start big and then run through some ideas that you can consider as you narrow your focus into a sub or shoulder niche which best suits your site and the problems that you are trying to solve for your readers.
What is a Niche?
In simple terms, a niche is a marketing segment that becomes the focus of your site. For example, you might wish to target your site at those looking for information in regards to camping, baby clothes or gaming etc. There really is no limit to the types of niche that you can choose however a good niche should:
Be evergreen – this means that it can never go out-of-date or style. We will cover this in a lot more detail later in this post.
Be able to solve a problem – Most people undertake searches on the internet to solve a problem – whether it be what or how to buy, how to use a product or simply because they require information.
Have some, but not too much competition – As with any sales process, the more competition there is, the harder it can be to stand out of the crowd. However if no one else is selling a product, then it could mean that there is no market for it . If you want to sell a high competition item then there are obviously a few things you can do to bring yourself to the surface but it is a bit easier though if there are fewer people doing the same thing as yourself – as long as there is a market for it in the first place.
Be a subject that you have an interest, or knowledge in – You can create a page on other subjects, but keep in mind that success in affiliate marketing takes time. You have to be honest with yourself that you will be able to maintain the rage on your site for a good while which is can be a challenge if you get bored with, or struggle to find information about your niche.
What are the most profitable niches?
I have undertaken a lot of research on this subject over the past year or so and there are four areas that most marketing experts recommend basing your niche on. These are:
- Health
- Wealth
- Self Help
- Romance/love
When you think about it, these make sense as people will always want to make money, be healthy, improve themselves and fall in love. I have also added another which I think meets the criteria above which is Hobbies.
How do we choose our own niche?
On face value it is quite obvious that these are quite broad topics which is where we start to look at narrowing down into a niche that we can work with. In order to keep this simple, we will run through this process from an affiliate marketing point of view. If you have an idea of what it is that you wish to build your site around the questions below may help you work out whether it is valid. If not, don't worry, we will run through some examples next.
The first question is to check whether it fits into the five major categories listed above – but don't stress if it doesn't – just take care with the rest of the questions below.
Is it evergreen?
Avoid any niche subject that can become obsolete, is a fad or has an identified end date. You do not want to spend all that time building up a site only to have it suddenly worthless overnight. However, don't always be scared of the term obsolete if it is just a model that will be superseded. This can actually be an opportunity – especially if you have a good following or email list. For example – television models become obsolete but televisions themselves do not – and even if they did you will be able to morph your site into the next round of the technology.
Careful consideration however is needed for things that can be considered a fad. One that comes to mind here is the Keto diet. It is extremely popular at the time of writing but will it become a thing of the past once the next big diet fad comes our way? This again doesn't mean that you can't write about it and sell relevant products to assist people with their Keto diet, but you just need to be vigilant for when the next program comes along – Oh, and please don't comment below to tell me off about how Keto is not a fad but a real eating regimen – I am just making a point ;-).
Can you write 100 posts on the subject?
This questions should help you determine whether your niche is too narrow – hence will not gain enough traffic to make decent sales. Let's look at televisions again… You can review them, give instructions on them, discuss all of the addons, extra components and variations for one, or each television type. You can even compare them but is that enough on its own for 100 posts? I actually don't know – which is also why you need to have an active interest or knowledge about the subject I guess. If not, maybe expand your niche to be home entertainment electronics rather than just televisions.
Is there a market?
As I said earlier this can be tricky one. You want to pick a niche that has enough competition to make it worthwhile but not so much that you are fighting 1000s of others to make a sale. To see if there is a market, look for the following:
Affiliate programs
See how many are there out there? Type “(niche product) affiliate program” into a search engine and see what comes back… for example, If I type in Keto diet affiliate program I get :
There was actually about 10 pages of affiliate programs for Keto so it is not a bad niche (Am I forgiven for calling it a fad?).
Products
Have a look on the likes of Amazon, ETSY, EBay and any other marketplace that supports affiliate programs and check out just how many products there are. This helps with ideas for product reviews as well as the identification of peripheral products that you can work with. And obviously if you are struggling to find products to sell, then maybe you have chosen the wrong niche.
Keywords
We discussed in our post on blog writing the importance of using keywords within your title and content. Do some keyword searches on your niche to give you an insight into just how many searches are undertaken within your niche. Let's have a look at our Keto keywords:
Wow, I like it – high word search with fairly low competition.
Web search
And finally, do some searching on the World Wide Web and see what else is out there affiliate wise. What sites are there? What are people selling? Do some keyword searches on their headings to see what the competition is and how they are using them. This will give you a good insight as to how the ‘industry' is working and what is ‘selling'.
Want to know a little trick that I use?
I use this tool to see how my competitors are traveling and really investigate the ones with good traffic. Never be afraid to learn from and mirror the stuff that works – just don't copy and paste their content. (oh, and for the record, I get no affiliate referrals for this site – I just wanted you to see a good tool).
That's right! Wealthy Affiliate provided me with all of the tools and training I needed to get this post in front of my audience - a.k.a YOU!
You too can start your very own online business here that can make you money from anywhere in the world!!
The five best niches
Ok, for those of you who are still a little unsure of what your niche should be, or just want some more ideas, let's dive into the 5 best (and obviously profitable) affiliate marketing niches.
Health
Health is the ultimate evergreen niche. Sure, there are fad diets and exercise programs but there is such a wide variety of subjects here that the sky really is the limit. Here are some popular sub-niches within the health space:
- Weightloss
- Obeseity
- Weight management
- Diet
- Keto
- Paleo
- Vegan
- Vegetarian
- Low Carb
- Children
- Athlete
- Fitness
- Muscle gain
- Strength
- Cardio
- Pilates/Yoga
- Women/new mothers
- Men
- Addiction
- Drugs
- Alcohol
- Gambling
- Smoking
- Mental health
- Depression
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Children
- Skin care
- acne
- Alternative
- Essential oils
- Herbal medicine
- Accupuncture
- Cannabis/CBD
There is literally no end to this list and I go on for hours. If you are working in this niche then the main focus is to think of the problem that you are trying to solve. Health is something that is obviously quite important to most of us in some capacity or the other (the word health is entered into search engines approximately 500,000 times per month) so there is an obvious market. Just make sure that you:
- Are providing real, tangible solutions
- Are not providing advice that you are not qualified to do (such as medical advice or making outlandish statements)
- Do not break any laws (some countries look poorly on site promoting the likes of medical marijuana etc.)
Even if the visitor is looking to solve a problem in a positive way- for example, “the best way to build muscle”. This is still a problem for them as they are searching for solutions on how to achieve that goal (1091 searches per month on average by the way).
And just for information purposes, if you chose fitness/body building as your niche then you would probably be looking at supplements, exercise regimes and affiliate referrals for online programs as your ways to monetise your site/posts.
Wealth
Next in line to health is wealth… More and more people want to either make money online, learn how to invest, get a job, re-educate and so on. And unless something changes in society where we don't need money to live, then this niche is fairly well safe from becoming obsolete as well. Here are some ideas for sub-niches in the Wealth space:
- Affiliate marketing
- Selling goods
- Freelance work
- Writing
- Photography
- Baby-sitting
- Website/app development
- Investing
- Stock market
- Property
- Crytpo currency
- Small business
- Retirement
- Superannuation
- Investments for seniors
Again, the sky is the limit. This is probably a niche where some more expertise may be needed when dealing with investment advice however affiliate marketing and the selling of online goods is a booming industry that does not seem to be slowing down any time soon – Affiliate marketing for example attracts roughly 33600 searches per month and the more obscure and controversial crypto currency sees a healthy 6000 odd (on those words only – that does not include keyword variations).
There is no end of affiliate programs for these products/services and as making money in the online world is a relatively new industry (when compared to others) there are opportunities galore to assist people with the problem of wanting to get involved but not knowing how or where to begin.
Self Help
The self-help industry is worth billions and growing – after all, we all know who Tony Robbins is right? There is argument that this subject could have been included within either the health or wealth niches as you could add the words ‘self-help‘ to the end of many of the sub niches I have listed there. It is such a growing industry however that I have kept it separate just so I could highlight it.
In most cases, this niche revolves around the marketing of online courses, training, conferences, seminars and the like. These can be either as affiliate programs for courses developed by others, or (more lucratively) ones that you have created yourself.
Note: There are a lot of scammers, poor quality programs and plenty of competition in this sector so you will have to work hard to prove your worth.
Romance/Love
Now we get back to the one of the more traditional niche subjects – Romance and Love. We humans are a social species and as long as that is the case, then there will be a market in this area. And as with most other things in the past 20 odd years, romance/love has gone nuts within the online world as well. In fact, according to StasticsBrain, 49,250,00 people in the USA alone have tried online dating of some kind. And just think of how many zeros get added to the price of something that has the word ‘wedding' or ‘baby' in it! Here are some good sub niches
- Online dating
- how to
- attracting the right partner
- Weddings
- All the stuff – there is so much here to list
- Babies
- Same as weddings
- Relationships
- Marriage counseling
- Coming out – same sex
- Building solid relationships
This is a very good affiliate marketing niche as in most cases, people are looking for something they need at the time and do need to purchase. I guess the only downside for the wedding and baby niches is the need to constantly find new traffic as most people do not get married or have babies every week.
Relationship management is also a good niche with plenty of options for online counseling as well as the sale of books, DVDs etc.
Hobbies
And finally we come to hobbies. This niche is not always mentioned in the same capacity as the others but to me, it is probably one of the most important. Why? Because people tend to be extremely passionate about their hobbies and not only want to know as much as they can about it, but are also willing to spend money! And thanks to ever-changing technology and research, hobbies are an evergreen market with ample opportunities to introduce upgraded items to your faithful readers on a regular basis. Common hobby sites include:
- Pets
- Sports – memorabilia and supporters gear
- Video games – known to those of us in the know as ‘gaming' haha
- Hifi/home entertainment
- Computers
- Fishing/camping/boating
- Cars/racing
- Sewing
- Home brewing
- Scrapbooking
- Horses
I think you get the picture – just think of the sub-niches for each of those.
Hobby niches are a great go-to if you want to set up an affiliate marketing site but don't really know where to start. What are you interested in? Let's use an example here again. Say you are an avid fisherman. You can write reviews on fishing rods, lines, lures and make recommendations based on your own experience, or that of others. Once you make the recommendation you then provide affiliate links so that your readers can make purchases based on your insights. I know if I am given a good rundown on what lure is best for a certain type of fish (which addresses my problem of not knowing which one is best) then there is a high chance I will buy from you – especially if you post a video of yourself using it! Think of a hobby and this process can be followed!
Conclusion
So there you have it – 5 great niches to choose from that can get you started in the world of affiliate marketing. Have you chosen a good niche? How did you find it? Do you have any that you have seen be effective that I have missed here? If so, please do not hesitate to comment below – I would love to hear what is working and what is not.

I really enjoyed looking at your list for possible niche ideas. One thing I noticed right away is that you have the health niche and this is so true… With the explosion of for example CBD Oil this is one niche that will never go away. So I would assume this is what you called Evergreen?
Another thing on your list that I take an interest in is actually investing specifically in the stock market… I only “risk” what I can afford to lose the because swings can be massive one way or the other.
Lastly I know for example for home entertainment you can expand into video games, board games, etc. So that’s also an excellent niche that I THINK would do well even if there was another recession…
One of the hardest things for a new entrepreneur is to figure out what niche you have, and so I’m sure many people will get some really great ideas from this post.
Hey Josh,
You are right – selecting a good niche is definiatley an art – the two questions I alway ask someone who is working out their niche is:
1. Waht problem are you looking to solve for your readers? e.g. If you are looking at CBD oil for example, why would people be looking into that?
2. How much infomration can you compose in regards to that. Again, with CBD oil, is there enough content ideas to write 100 posts? If so, then it can be a good niche, If not, then you may need to expand it a bit..
Hope this helps and thanks for stopping by
