Hey guys, and welcome back to Make that Sea Change – One thing that I often hear when I am looking at anything to do with building websites, landing pages and publishing blog posts etc. is that with modern development platforms you do not need to know anything about HTML. I have to say that whilst this is mostly true, I know I use it occasionally and do believe that a little knowledge can go a long way. So when I saw EZ HTML Basics pop up in my email list then, I though I would check it out.
The reason I was excited for this one is that it promised to cover the HTML basics allowing novice developers to get some simple coding done without causing too much damage to their site. So what I want to see here is:
- Does it teach you the basics?
- Is the information covered transferable to a real life site?
- Is it worth the cost (I paid $8 but usual cost is $27)
For this review, I will run you through:
- What it is
- How it works
- Pros and Cons
- Cost
- My recommendations
Does it teach you the basics? Yes it does, in a clear and concise series of videos. Is the information covered transferable to a real life site? Ummm, there is probably not enough tuition on HTML code editing for my liking.
Do I recommend it? – For $8? – sure – it is not a bad product for $8. For $27? I think you could do better. Read on to see why…
What is EZ HTML Basics?
EZ HTML Basics is series of 5 – 10 minute training videos designed to assist with basic HTML coding and use within website development.
Let's run through it all in more detail below:
What do you get?
The EZ HTML Basics platform contains 9 video tutorials covering HTML ‘basics'. The videos are downloadable and demonstrations are made utilizing the Komposer WYSIWYG website HTML editing tool.
The following content is covered within the videos:
Video 1 – Intro
Video 1 is an introduction to the training course and runs through:
- Content of following 8 videos
- Setup of WYSIWYG editor (see note below)
- HTML Basic code names
Note: EZ HTML Basics utilizes a free website content editor called Komposer in its training videos. You can however utilise this training within any other editor such as WordPress or Wix. Functionality will obviously differ from system to system however.
Video 2 – Hacking HTML without knowing code
Video 2 introduces the key functionality of the Komposer program with some basic content entry including:
- Text
- A table
- Links
- An image
From here, it provides a very quick introduction as to how this content appears within the HTML editor.
Video 3 – Open and Close Tags
Video 3 discusses open and close tags and how they control content within a web page.
Video 4 – Headings
Headings in website posts are important for a number of reasons such as ease of use, highlighting and SEO.
The video covers the assignment of headings to a website post and how they can be viewed or adjusted via the HTML editor.
Video 5 – Break Tags
Video 5 covers break tags (when you press Enter on your keyboard to create a new line). This one runs through how they are created in the editor and how they look in HTML.
Video 6 – Formatting
Video 6 is quite an important one as it covers formatting. Again, this is mostly done within the editor but there are times when some adjustment may be required.
Whilst I would have liked to have seen some more examples of adjustment via HTML code, this video does explain the codes and what to look for.
Video 7 – Lists
As the name suggests, Video 7 discussed the HTML coding behind lists including
- Open and close tags within lists
- Ordered lists
- Unordered lists
Video 8 – Images
Video 8 covers the addition of images. The process works as follows:
- Locate your image
- Upload it to the content editor
The video then demonstrated how this looks and can be edited within HTML code – It does not demonstrate editing however.
Video 9 – Hyperlink
This final video discussed the use if Hyperlinks within the content editor and then how they look within the HTML code.

Do I recommend it?
Look, for what it is, the training is basic but sound and does give a good ground level explanation of HTML codes and how they work within a website content editor. I guess the only thing for me is that I would have liked to have seen a bit more demonstration on how to adjust some content via the HTML editor (as that is what the sales pitches outline) for those situations for when this is needed.
There is nothing here that you couldn't find elsewhere for free however for someone who needs to understand basic HTML and have it all in one spot then this product is probably worth the $8 I spent on it. Although at the usual price of $27 I would maybe be looking for the free options.
That said, the $27 does include reseller options so that may be worth the price for those looking to make some money from the product.
