Hey there sea changers, and welcome back to my series of MLM reviews. Today I am going to check out a program with its fingers in a few pies with my Reliv MLM Review. The reason I make that comment is that, whilst it is essentially a site that sells weightloss and fitness supplements, it also contains access to CBD oils and a fitness program.
Whilst all are popular niches to investigate as an online business, I guess the question is whether having this almost eclectic mix of products can be an advantage or a detriment. So, is Reliv an MLM worth joining, let's not waste any time and check it all out…
What is MLM?
Multi-level marketing (MLM) programs are the mainstay of the ‘party plan' world of products such as Tupperware, Mary Kay and Amway etc. and, recently, becoming more and more prevalent within the markets listed above. One of the reasons for this is that much of the sales and marketing for MLMs is now being managed online – alleviating the need to run parties – and, more importantly, not hassle everybody you know to join (you can of course, but you don't have to).
That's right! Wealthy Affiliate provided me with all of the tools and training I needed to get this post in front of my audience - a.k.a YOU!
You too can start your very own online business here that can make you money from anywhere in the world!!
The ‘multi level' aspects of MLM come from its hierarchical nature in which you make commissions based not only on those that you sell to, but also the sales of those whom you ‘sign' into membership arrangements as well.
In short, the process works as follows:
- You join the program, either via referral from another person (known as your up line) or directly through their website.
- You promote the products of the company via parties, workshops or online.
- As you make sales, you offer incentives to your customers to sign up as a member of the program (there are different names for this but they all mean the same thing).
- That new member is then placed ‘underneath' you in a hierarchical arrangement (known as your down line).
- You, and a number of levels of your up line, then gain extra commissions for everything they sell as well.
- If they manage to refer their customers into memberships, they also become a member of your down line allowing you to make up line commissions as well.
The number of levels of your up and down lines will vary depending on the program you have joined. Commission rates will also change as your down line grows or contracts and many will also offer other incentives such as total company sales percentages and/or access to membership prizes as your own business grows.
Reliv MLM Review: Who are Reliv?

Reliv is a United States based company that provides access to a number of health and wellness, CBD Oil and fitness products. The company was founded in 1982 by Robert and Sandy Montgomery with Dr. Theodore Kalogris, who had developed an advanced nutritional formula that forms the basis of their main products.

Their mission: “to get our core nutrition products into every home in the world so we Nourish Our World in Body, Mind and Spirit.” As with many programs of this nature, the site is built around its MLM platform with all purchases and processes aimed at the recruitment of distributors
What do they Sell?
As outlined above, Reliv offers products in three main areas:
Health and Wellness Supplements
- Protein powders
- Dietary Supplements
- Health and Fitness
- Energy
- Fiber
- Cardio
- Children
- Weightloss Supplements
- Meal replacement
- Fat Burners

CBD Oils
- Oil Tinctures
- Muscle and Skin balm
Fit3 Program
The Fit3 Program is a distinct advantage within this site as it allows for the promotion of Reliv products within a real life fitness/weightloss program utilising videos, meal plans and nutrition. The setup is obviously reliant on the purchase of Reliv products however clever Distributors can potentially use this program to build a great mentoring relationship with their customers and down line.
MLM Program outline
The Reliv MLM program calls their members Independent Distributor's who can take part in what appears at first view as a simplistic but standard program. There are some differences here compared to others however in that their initial ranking structure commissions are permanent meaning that once you reach a certain level, you are there for life.
You do not however qualify for other usual MLM commissions (such as unilevel commissions) until your reach the higher rank levels. So does this make it one to really get into? To start with, let's check out the basics…
Discount for members: Up to 40%
Base Commission rate: Up to 40% for personal purchases and sales
Down line commission rates: 2 to 8% to 5 levels – Master Affiliate Rank and above only.
Minimum monthly spend to qualify for commissions
- For the initial ranks, there is no minimum monthly spend required to earn a base commission of 20% however rank increases require a Personal Group Point Volume (PGPV) sales starting at 499 and up.
- Master affiliates and above are required to maintain a personal volume of 100PQV
Payment terms: Weekly and monthly.
Application required?: Yes, personal and payment information at time of first purchase
Purchase requirements to join: Yes
- Membership startup cost is $40.
Marketing materials provided: Not really stated apart from a tracking back office and ‘ongoing support'.
As with the bigger programs, downline commissions and rankings are determined by the total Personal Group Point Volume (PGPV) that you and your downline generate in a calendar month. I could not find any documentation on how Reliv assigns Personal Volume (PV) points to its products however most MLM programs manage it this way in that commissions are paid on the points assigned to a product rather than the entire sales total.
For example, if a product retails for $100 and has a 50PV rating (these generally vary from product to product) then the commission is calculated on the $50 purchase only. So if a commission rate for a product is 20% then it will generate a $10 payment to the sponsor (I.e. 20% of the $50 commissionable amount).
It does look here that the base commissions are paid on the full sales amount however so please comment below if this information is inaccurate.

How can I get paid?
The Reliv Compensation Plan promotes 6 ways in which you can make money when you promote and sell their products. The payment methods are similar to most their programs however a distributor can only start to qualify for many of the standard MLM payment structures once they reach the rank of Master Affiliate.
Profit Level Commissions
Profit Level commissions structure is the starting point of the program where distributors are paid base commissions on the total PGPV of their personal purchases and those of their down line. Payment commissions are as follows:

As stated earlier, distributors do not have to make personal purchases to qualify for these commissions as they are tallied from the sales of their customers as well (although to be successful I believe they will need to – I will elaborate on this later).
The Main advantage here is that once a distributor reaches a rank of Retail Distributor to Senior Affiliate, they remain there permanently – I.e. if they qualify for Senior Affiliate in one month but do not reach the required 3000 PGPV the next, they are still paid commissions based on that rank.
Wholesale Profits
Wholesale profits are paid to any Reliv Distributor with downline Distributors at a lower profit level. Wholesale profits are equal to the difference between their profit level and their down line Distributor’s profit level.
For Example:
- A Senior Affiliate profit Level is 35%
- Their Distributor is an Affiliate whose profit Level is 25%
- The Senior Affiliate will then receive wholesale profits of 10% on the RV of product purchases made by their sponsored Distributor.
Payment Platforms – Master Affiliate
The commissions outlined above are designated to those who are either new to the program, or do not make the sales to achieve the higher ranks. With the Reliv program, once distributors are able to reach the rank of Master Affiliate, they then qualify for a number of extra payment options and qualifications.
To qualify as a Master Affiliate, the distributor must meet one of two requirements:
- Achieve 5,000 PGPV in a calendar month, including 1,000 PGPV unencumbered*.
- Achieves 3,000 PGPV each month for two consecutive calendar months, including 1,000 PGPV unencumbered* each month.
Master Affiliates are also required to meet 100PVQ of personal purchases per month to remain Active.
*Unencumbered volume consists of volume points that are not being used to qualify a downline Distributor as a Master Affiliate during the same month. This volume includes your personal sales plus the sales made by Distributors in your personal group that are not being used to qualify another Distributor in your group as a Master Affiliate.
Let's run through the payment options for Master Affiliates and above…
Override payments
Override Payments are the basic Unilevel commissions common to most MLM programs. For Master Affiliates and above, the down line commissions are as follows:

Override Maintenance
Monthly Override maintenance is in addition to the ranking PVQ requirement and is designed to incentivise Master Affiliates to active pursue the necessary duties of an
organization leader.
Overrides are paid based on the following PGPV requirements:

When an active Master Affiliate attains 10 front line Master Affiliates, the 100% maintenance requirement is reduced to 1,000 PGPV.
Reliv Director Program
Once a Master Affiliate reaches higher sales levels, they then qualify as a Reliv Director. This will trigger extra payments and bonuses as follows:

Star Director Bonus
The Star Director Bonus is a bonus that rewards Master Affiliates who manage to build a successful downline. These bonuses are paid in three levels:
3-Star Director Bonus
Qualification: Personally sponsor three first-level active Master Affiliates who reach 6000 PGPV between them.
Reward: 1% Override on the volume of all lines to an unlimited number of levels until they reach a Master Affiliate who has also achieved Star Director status.
6-Star Director Bonus
Qualification: Personally sponsor six first-level active Master Affiliates who reach 12,000 PGPV between them.
Reward: 2% Override on all volume in all lines for an unlimited depth, until they reach a Master Affiliate who has also achieved Star Director status.
10-Star Director Bonus
Qualification: Personally sponsor 10 first-level active Master Affiliates who reach 20,000 PGPV between them.
Reward: 3% Override on all volume in all lines for or an unlimited depth, until they reach a Master Affiliate who has also achieved Star Director status.
What is good about it?
So, after a good look around the site and looking at all the options I could find, I do like the following:
- Commission rates for entry level sales are very good.
- Most information in regards to their MLM program is easy to find.
- The program favors lower ranks with higher commissions and no monthly spend requirements.
- Fit3 program can assist in increasing sales.

What is no so good about it?
There are also some things to be aware of including:
- PV calculation details are not evident (to me anyway).
- The program is not as favourable to higher ranks as some other programs.
- There are not as many bonus options as other programs.
How much can you make?
Relive provides an average income table for its program as below (over a 12 month period). As with most MLM programs, the percentage of members making the upper rank levels – and good money – is very low:

My final thoughts
So, is Reliv a MLM worth joining? Look, MLM is not an easy platform to make money in. That said, the Reliv program does seem to be one that can make its distributors some good money from the outset if they can make sales early. I don't however see as much in terms of earning options for the higher ranks so if you are someone who has a history of reaching good ranks within MLM programs then maybe looking elsewhere might be a good option.
You do not necessarily need to make monthly purchases yourself (until you make Master Affiliate level) to qualify for commissions however if you cannot make the required PQV for your rank from your customer base, then you may need to top up the payments yourself.
This can make things very difficult if you are starting out and not making early sales. In addition to that, if you are going to succeed in any MLM program, you need intricate knowledge of the product meaning you will generally need to make purchases. This is why some tend to move towards affiliate marketing at the beginning of their online business journey before moving into MLM at a later time.
I was unable to locate any negative reviews in terms of non-payments or customer service for this site however there was some information in regards to a previous legal issue around the use of lead based ingredients within their products which have since been removed from their recipes. There are some negative comments about the MLM program and products as well – although it was not really anything that is uncommon in regards to MLM programs.

Conclusion
So there you have it, my honest review and appraisal of the Reliv MLM program. I hope it has been of assistance but as usual, if you have any questions or experience with this program please do not hesitate to reach out by commenting below – especially if any of my information is inaccurate.
