Hey there sea changers, and welcome back to my series of MLM reviews. Today we are going to squeeze our way into the supplements industry with my Juice Plus MLM Review. Supplements are a very popular online purchase for many in that they generally don't really need to touch or feel the products beforehand – and in the case of capsules, taste influences are also close to non-existent as well. Added to this is the sheer convenience in the busy daily lives of many so if you are looking to build an income around this industry then is juice Plus a MLM worth checking into? Let's have a look and find out…

What is MLM?
Multi-level marketing (MLM) programs are the mainstay of the ‘party plan' world of products such as Tupperware, Mary Kay and Amway etc. and, of course within the supplements market. MLM has become a little more popular lately, mainly due to the fact that much of the sales and marketing is now being managed online – alleviating the need to run parties – and, more importantly, not hassle everybody you know to join (you can of course, but you don't have to).

The ‘multi level' aspects of MLM come from its hierarchical nature in which you make commissions based not only on those that you sell to, but also the sales of those whom you ‘sign' into membership arrangements as well.
In short, the process works as follows:
- You join the program, either via referral from another person (known as your up line) or directly through their website.
- You promote the products of the company via parties, workshops or online.
- As you make sales, you offer incentives to your customers to sign up as a member of the program (there are different names for this but they all mean the same thing).
- That new member is then placed ‘underneath' you in a hierarchical arrangement (known as your down line).
- You, and a number of levels of your up line, then gain extra commissions for everything they sell as well.
- If they manage to refer their customers into memberships, they also become a member of your down line allowing you to make up line commissions as well.
The number of levels of your up and down lines will vary depending on the program you have joined. Commission rates will also change as your down line grows or contracts and many will also offer other incentives such as total company sales percentages and/or access to membership prizes as your own business grows.
Who are Juice Plus+?

Juice Plus+ was established in 1970 by Jay Martin, a school teacher with a strong entrepreneurial streak and a will to “inspire healthy living around the world“. Since then, the company, based in Collierville, Tennessee, has evolved into a multi million dollar concern operating in more than 20 countries around the world.
All operations within Juice Plus are centred on a comprehensive seven step mission based around being a positive example to naturally attract the others. It is expected that all who involve themselves will strive to meet these 7 steps that are outlined as follows:

What do they Sell?
Juice Plus+ offers an array of supplements that are manufactured from the juice powder concentrates and oils from more than 40 different fruits, vegetables and grains. Their range is not as large as some others (such as the Shaklee Products for example) but there is certainly enough there to cover a different range of needs including:
- Capsules – Fruit and Vegetable concentrates
- Nutrition snack bars
- Meal Shakes – energy, meal replacement, post workout etc.
- Chewables – Fruit and Vegetable concentrates

Prices are in the medium to high price range spectrum starting from $12.50 (kids chewables) up to $75 (Capsules) for a 1-month supply (purchased in 4 month lots).
MLM Program outline
The Juice Plus+ MLM program calls their members Distributors who become members of the Juice Plus+ Virtual Franchise. Their compensation plan is directly available on their site (in the form of a comprehensive video – above) and contains an interesting (if not a little confusing) commission and bonus structure based on three phases of business growth. Here are the basics as I have found them…
Base Commission rate:13% (based on example of $39 payment for $300)
Team Commission rate: 6 – 22% dependent upon rank
Down line commission rates: 5% to 3 – 5 generations(Rank of Virtual Franchisee and above)
Minimum monthly spend to qualify for commissions
- Distributors are required to generate at least 500 PCV to qualify for commissions – this can be made of personal or customer sales and targets raise with ranks progression.
Payment terms: Weekly and Monthly.
Application required?: Yes, Application form on website
Purchase requirements to join: Yes
Membership enrolment fee – $USD 52
No start up product purchases are required.
Marketing materials provided: Replicated website, social media banners, apps and virtual office.
As with the most MLM programs, downline commissions and rankings are determined by the total Personal Volume Credit Volume (PVC) generated by the Distributor and their down line within a calendar month. Most MLM programs manage it this way in that commissions are paid on the points assigned to a product rather than the entire sales total. Based on the example in the compensation plan, Juice Pus+ appears to calculate its PVC allocations at around 56% of the USD sales price. So, using their example, if a product retails for $300 which gives it a 169.50 PVC rating (these generally vary from product to product and are adjusted based on the currency that the purchase is made in) then the commission is calculated on $169.50. If the commission rate then for a product is 6% it will generate a $10.00 payment to the sponsor (i.e. 6% of the $169.50 commissionable amount).

How can I get paid?
The compensation plan promotes 8 ways in which Distributors can make money when they promote and sell products. This is managed under three phases as follows:
Phase 1 – The First 60 Days

Phase 1 is designed to allow newly registered distributors to earn income immediately as well as provide incentives to ‘qualify' their business quickly so that they can earn the bonuses offered in Phase 2 (I will explain Qualification in Phase 2).
In Phase 1, Distributors can earn via the following methods…
Retail Sales Profit
Retail Profit is the base profits earned by the general day to day retail sales that distributors generate via their personalised website. A commission of 13% of the purchase value is paid if done so at retail prices.
Note: Distributors do not need to meet minimum purchase targets to earn retail sales profit commissions/payments.
Commissions
As new distributors start to make sales and attract people to their down lines, they can earn commissions based on the ranks that they start to achieve. These are paid as follows:
- Direct Distributors – 6%
- Virtual Franchisee – 14%
- Sales Coordinator – 20%
These rank positions are determined, as with most MLM programs on downline numbers and qualification of the business. Again (and this is a little chicken and egg stuff here) I will explain this further down the page.
Team Building Bonuses
Team Building Bonuses, common with many MLM programs, are a ‘quick start' option paid to distributors who are able to increase in rank within their first 60 days of operation. Bonuses on the achievement of new ranks within this time frame are as follows:
- Direct Distributors – $100
- Virtual Franchisee – $300 – plus $300 for their up line sponsor
- Sales Coordinator – $600 – plus $600 for their up line sponsor
Sales Coordinators who reach that rank within the 60-day period also qualify to receive sales and leads generated via the main Juice Pkus+ website meaning that sponsor less sales made by the general public can be assigned to them as part of their down line.
Phase 2 – Building a Team

Phase 2 is all about building a team and consolidating the base level ranks discussed in Phase 1 above. As Distributors reach each new rank (whether within the 60-day period or not) the payments outlined in Phase 1 take effect. In Stage 2, extra commissions are available as the business become ‘Qualified'. Qualification of the business means that Distributors must maintain at least 24 customers who purchase the Trio pack ($300) each month:

The next level of payment options within the compensation plan are all dependent upon qualification of the business monthly.
3 Club Bonuses
One of the main aspects of phase 2 is to have Distributors working to the ‘Power of 3'. This means that each Qualified Distributor becomes a member of the ‘3 Club' once they have assisted three of their downline to become qualified as well (i.e. maintain 24 trio pack customers as a minimum). Once this has been achieved, they can earn the 3 Club Bonus which the expands on growth as follows:
- 3 Club Bonus – $300
- 12 Club Bonus – $1200 – i.e. The initial three also assist three of their downline members to become qualified and so on as follows:
- 24 Club Bonus – $2400
- 39 Club Bonus – $3900
- 50 Club Bonus – $5000
- 75 Club Bonus – $7500
- 100 Club Bonus – $10000
Performance Bonus
Once a Qualified Distributor starts to build their down line team to the point that they reach the rank of Virtual Franchisee, they then also qualify for the Performance Bonus. This is the closest thing in the Juice Plus+ plan to unilevel commissions where 5% is earned on all down line sales down to 5 Generations as follows:

Promote Out Bonus
Qualified Distributors who reach the rank of Sales Coordinator and above also qualify for a Promote Out Bonus of an extra 4% once they are able in promote out members of their downline to the rank of Sales Coordinator or above.

Phase 3 – Leadership Positions

As Distributors continue to nurture and build their down line and customer levels (to remain qualified), they then move into the Leadership Phase of the Compensation Plan. Leaders who reach the three upper ranks (as per the below graphic) qualify for further bonus payments as follows:
Rank Bonus
As per the Team Building Bonus above, Qualified Distributors are rewarded for reaching each rank as follows:

Business Incentive Bonus
The Business Incentive Bonus (or BIB as they call it) is paid to all leadership positions to assist them in running their business – i.e. working with their downline to Qualify and Rank up. These payments are as follows:
- Senior Sales Coordinator – $500 per month
- National Marketing Director – $1000 per month
- National Marketing Director – $3000 per month
Note – Leadership ranks still need to maintain a Qualified status to earn these payments.
Ranking structure
As you have probably noticed, many of the commissions and bonuses paid out above are reliant upon the ‘rank' that Distributors are assigned within the Juice Plus+ MLM program. This ranking structure is not as straight forward as others where all ranks are determined by monthly PVC targets as well as the number of qualified members within down lines measured via the ‘Power of 3' method. A diagram of this is as follows:

As is common, the more sponsored distributors and the higher the total sales volume, the higher the rank. The compensation plan doesn't provide a ranking table as such so I have demonstrated the requirements of the lowest and highest ranks below:

What is good about it?
So, after a good look around the site and looking at all the options I could find, I do like the following:
- There are a good number of bonus options.
- The compensation plan is available on the website.
- No ongoing personal purchases are required.
What is no so good about it?
There are also some things to be aware of including:
- Base commissions are quite low compared to other programs.
- The program is very heavily dependent upon the recruitment of new customers.
- The compensation plan is a little confusing.
- Purchase requirements must be made in 4 month supply lots.
How much can you make?
Juice Plus+ provides base level estimates for its Distributors within its compensation plan starting at around $12 per annum for Sale Coordinators up to around $100,000 for National Marketing Directors. The fact that all levels need to maintain 24 active trio pack purchasing customers every month would lead me to believe however that the number of Distributors reaching the higher levels (and hence making a living) would be at the same rate of most other programs at less than 1% of all members.

My final thoughts
Look, MLM is not an easy platform to make money in and there is not certainly much that I have seen here (or within other Juice Plus reviews) to put this program above the many others I have seen.
The real concern here for me is qualification process in which Distributors must maintain 24 active customers (who purchase the $300 trio pack each month). And considering that the Trio packs provide a four-month supply of product, I would be curious to know if these are considered active over that time period or not. If not, this means that the compensation plan already heavily steered towards recruitment may be even more so.
There are the usual operating procedures for MLMs in that qualification processes for higher ranks with monthly PVC requirements are in place however this does not have to be made via personal contributions – unless shortfalls need to be made up if targets are not made via customer sales of course. There are also no starter kit purchase requirements.
At the end of the day, if I am being honest, whilst there is nothing here that would make me tell you to avoid it completely, there is just something about it that appears to make it a little harder to succeed in than some others within this niche. However if you have a massive customer list who are interested in supplements, then as long as you go in with your eyes open to the fact that success in MLM is not easy and takes a good amount of time, patience and often, financial commitments, then maybe it could work.
I was unable to locate any negative reviews in terms of non-payment etc. however there was some negative comments about the quality of products and the MLM program itself – although it was not really anything that is uncommon in regards to MLM programs or products within this niche. There have been some legal issues in regards to their auto subscription model and some of their distributors have been in trouble for selling via secret groups in Italy (the company was fined €1m) so maybe just make sure you are across that before joining as well.
Conclusion
So there you have it, my honest review and appraisal of the Juice Plus+ MLM program. I hope it has been of assistance but as usual, if you have any questions or experience with this program please do not hesitate to reach out by commenting below – especially if any of my information is inaccurate.
