What is MLM?

Multi-level marketing (MLM) programs are the traditional mainstay of the ‘party plan' world of products such as Tupperware, Mary Kay and Amway etc. and, of course within the beauty/cosmetics and supplements markets. MLMs within these niches have become more popular in recent times – mainly due to the fact that much of the sales and marketing is now being managed online – leading to increased opportunities and modernised compensation plans.

And it is the same training that helped me sell another site for $17,000 - And yes, the sale came through as I was standing here!.

You too can start your very own online business here that can make you money from anywhere in the world!!

The ‘multi level' aspects of MLM come from its hierarchical nature in which you make commissions based not only on those that you sell to, but also the sales of those whom you ‘sign' into membership arrangements as well.

In short, the process works as follows:

  1. You join the program, either via referral from another person (known as your up line) or directly through their website.
  2. You promote the products of the company via parties, workshops or online.
  3. As you make sales, you offer incentives to your customers to sign up as a member of the program (there are different names for this but they all mean the same thing).
  4. That new member is then placed ‘underneath' you in a hierarchical arrangement (known as your down line).
  5. You, and a number of levels of your up line, then gain extra commissions for everything they sell as well.
  6. If they manage to refer their customers into memberships, they also become a member of your down line allowing you to make up line commissions as well.

The number of levels of your up and down lines will vary depending on the program you have joined. Commission rates will also change as your down line grows or contracts and many will also offer other incentives such as total company sales percentages and/or access to membership prizes as your own business grows.

What is Seacret?

Seacret Direct MLM Review - Home

With a mission to build “a wealthy global community, serving the world by delivering unexpected results through innovative products, opportunity and inspiration”, Seacret was founded in 2001 by Izhak Ben Shabat and Dani Solomon based on a small range of skin care and beauty products. 2011 then saw the introduction of Seacret Direct as a social marketing operation based on these products.

MLM Program outline

The Seacret Direct MLM program calls their members ‘Agents' who are part of what appears to be fairly modern program with a common retail and downline commission structure and a good number of bonus options included. I was unable to locate their compensation plan on their website however it did appear as the result of a basic online web search so here are the basics as I have found them…

Base Commission rate: Up to 150% (the difference between the Agent price of a product and the Retail price of a product)

Down line commission rates: 10-15% – Binary commission.

Minimum monthly spend to qualify for commissions

To qualify for downline commissions, Agents are required to maintain a status of ‘Active' by:

  1. Reaching a weekly sales target of 200 TPV
  2. Maintain 4 Active VIP/Elite Customers
  3. Place a 35 BV order every 4 weeks

Agents however do not need to be Active to earn base retail commissions.

Payment terms: Weekly and Monthly.

Application required?: Yes, Application form on website.

Purchase requirements to join: Yes

New Agents are required to pay a $49 registration fee which includes:

Marketing materials provided: As per starter kit above.

Within most MLM programs, rankings and commissions are determined by either the total business volume (BV) generated by the Agent and their down line within a calendar month with points assigned to each product. These point allocations can range from 50 to 100% of the retail price of each product (before tax and shipping) and vary from item to item and currency of sale.

In the case of the Seacret MLM program, Commission is calculated on the Commissional Volume (CV) assigned to a product. I was unable to find exact point allocation information for this program although the compensation plan does highlight that CV does not always equal BV and BV is not always an exact match of 1 point per 1 dollar sold.

A general example of how this all works is as follows:

If a product is sold for $100 with a Commissional Volume (CV) of 70, then payments are calculated on $70 of the sale cost not the full $100. Hence, then if a downline commission rate is 5% then the payment to the Agent would total $3.50 (i.e. 5%of $70).

How can I get paid?

Ok, so from what I can garner from the compensation plan, there are 10 ways in which Agents can make money when they promote and sell Seacret products. The compensation plan is a little confusing however these are fairly straight forward and there are a few of the extra bonuses found in many other MLM arrangements. The 10 payment options for the Seacret MLM program are outlined as follows:

1. Retail Commissions

These are the base commissions earned by the general day to day retail sales that Agents can generate via parties, popups, social media or online via their personalized website. Commissions of up to 150% are paid as the difference between the Agent's discount price and the retail price charged to the customer.

Agents do not have to be Active or Qualified to earn this commission. Customer Orders must be placed through the Agent's replicated site, or through order forms submitted to the company.

2. WOW Bonus

The WOW Bonus is paid on all VIP and/or Elite customer orders within the Agent's downline as follows:

Seacret Direct MLM Review - WOW Bonus
  • VIP Customers are Customers who do one of the following:
    • Accrue 500 points in a 12-month period
    • Place a first-time order of at least $99
    • Enroll in our replenishment program, Bundle & Save
  • Elite Customers are VIP Customers who accrue 2,000 points in a 12-month period.

3. Global VIP and Elite Customer Pool

The Global VIP and Elite Customer Pool allows for bonus commissions to be earned by Agents who are able nurture higher numbers of these customer types within their organization. This pool comprises 2% of the total sales volume of these customer types and is paid in shares to qualifying Agents as follows:

Seacret Direct MLM Review - VIP and Elite Pool

To qualify for shares in this pool, Agents must be Active and have a minimum of 10 Active VIP or Elite Customers on the last day of the month.

4. Fast Start Bonus

This is a common bonus option within many MLM programs where Agents are incentivised to sell starter sets as part of their enrollment processes. In this case, the Fast Start Bonus is paid to every Agent who personally recruits a new member to their down line with a starter set purchase as below:

For Agents at rank Superstar or above, the Fast Start Bonus is doubled.

To qualify for the Fast Start Bonus (and all ongoing commissions and bonuses below) an Agent must maintain a status of ‘Active'.

5. Superstar Builder Bonus

The Superstar Builder Bonus is another common bonus option aimed to encourage Agents to assist downline members in reaching the higher ranks.

In the case of the Seacret Direct MLM program, Agents at rank of Royale or above can earn a bonus payment of $100 for every downline member who reaches the rank of Superstar or above within their first 28 days of operation.

6. Team Commissions

Team Commissions are Seacret's version of traditional binary commission structures prevalent within many MLM programs. Within the Seacret MLM program, Team Commissions are based on a 1/3, 2/3 system when the lesser volume leg is equal to 1/3 of the total team volume and the greater volume leg is equal to 2/3 of the total team volume.

This is referred to as a Binary Match with Team Commissions based on the lesser volume leg’s volume as below:

  • Rank of Star through Executive: 10% of lesser group’s volume
  • Rank of Bronze or Above: 15% of lesser group’s volume.

7. Rank Advancement Bonus

The Rank Advancement Bonus is another commonly utilised network marketing payment option that rewards Agents for advancing up to the higher ranks within the program. In this case, one-time bonuses can be earned as follows:

8. Leadership Check Match Bonus

The Leadership Check Match Bonus is designed to entice Agents to support those within their down line in rising through the ranks as well. Sponsors at Bronze rank and above can earn up to 20% on the Team Commission of downline Agents that also achieve Bronze rank or above within their open line tree. These payments are outlined as follows:

9. Drive Your Dream Bonus

This is another common bonus option that rewards those who reach the higher ranks within the program with payments towards the lease or purchase of a car. In the case, the Drive Your Dream Bonus is paid to Agents at Royale rank or above every 4 weeks to be used towards anything that drives their dreams such as a car, home or whatever the Agent chooses. Payment amounts differ on rank as follows:

10. Other Incentives

As with many other MLM programs, the SeaCret Compensation plan allows for other incentives and bonuses to be earned by qualifying Agents including:

12 Weeks Paid as Bronze – Accumulate 1,000 TPV to qualify for 12 Weeks Paid as Bronze that will code the Agent to receive Bronze Agent pay for 12 weeks from the week of completion without change in rank.

Enroll 4 Pay No More – An Agent can earn free product credit every month by enrolling VIP/Elite Customers.

Host Rewards

In addition to the personalized website arrangements of the program, Seacret also provides incentives for hosts who allow Agents to incorporate traditional party plan operations into their sales processes. Party Hosts do not receive commissions for sales however do earn rewards as follows:

Ranking structure

Seacret, as with most MLM programs, uses ranking structures on which to base commission payments and other bonuses upon. Rankings for the Seacret MLM program are as follows (note personal and team sales qualification targets as well):

Seacret Direct MLM Review - Rank

Again, as is common with almost all MLM programs, rank progression is determined by both the number of members within the Agent's down line legs, and the total sales made by those members per month. Ranks can rise and fall based on the ability (or dis-ability) to reach the required member and sales targets.

What is good about it?

So, after a good look around the site and looking at all the options I could find, I do like the following:

  • Commission rates for entry level sales are very good (perhaps the highest I have seen).
  • Commissions can be earned without the need to meet sales targets

What is no so good about it?

There are also some things to be aware of including:

  • There are some joining costs.
  • Whilst not mandatory, ongoing demonstration purchases may be required.
  • Point calculation information is not readily available.

How much can you make?

Seacret does not provide an income disclosure table as such on its website however it does include an Earning Statement as follows:

Seacret Direct MLM Review - Earnings statement

Based in this information, it can be safely assumed that as with most MLM programs the percentage of members making the upper rank levels – and hence earning a living – is very low.

My final thoughts

Look, MLM is not an easy platform to make money in and there is not much that I have seen here to put this program above the many others I have seen. However, the program is pretty straight forward with common commission arrangements and the ability to make sales online or via hosted networking parties. So if you are an absolute fashion nut with a large customer list at your disposal and the ability to generate good sales via online or traditional demonstration processes, then the 150% commission rates might just appeal here.

Once you have joined, there are not the usual financial pressures of needing to make minimum personal purchases in order to qualify for commissions as long as you can make them within your down line. Although from what I can see, I think if you are going to succeed within this MLM program – or you are looking to run via the party plan model – you will need to have a good array of demonstration stock on hand. You may also need to bump up your personal purchase quota if customer sales alone are not enough for you to remain ‘Active' and qualify for commissions and/or discounts within a particular month.

I was unable to locate any negative reviews in terms of non-payment etc. although there were some negative comments (not as many as most others however) about the quality of customer service and the MLM program itself – although it was not really anything that is uncommon in regards to MLM programs or products within this niche.
