Well hello there and welcome to my website – Make That Sea Change. For most of us, a sea change is something that we aspire to but never quite have the ‘guts' to do. I don't mean that in a nasty way, I simply mean it that there are so many moving parts when we think about making that big move usually from the city to the beach – or country town to the beach – or beach to the country – well, you get the picture. A couple of years ago, my wife and I took the plunge and made the move. For me it was all about lifestyle, I was sick of sitting in a bus like a drone, going to a cubicle like a drone, working all day only to have a decision made above my pay grade that made it all useless, going back home on the bus like a drone… Wash, rinse, repeat…
Why make the change?
There are so many reasons why someone may choose to make a sea change. Mine was out of pure boredom and
hatred for what I was doing, the money was good but I was miserable. However, there are certainly a lot more reasons why you may be considering the big move such as:
- Be closer to family – or further away
- Live near the beach/in the country
- Change of lifestyle
- Health reasons
- More time for hobbies
- Downsize
- Housing affordability
- You went there on holiday and want to live there now
And so on and so on… For some, the sea change might not involve moving at all, rather changing the way you work such as making money online or working from home.
What stops us?
Again, there are numerous reasons – For us, it was financial. I was earning such good money where I was working that I was scared about not having that income – or any income at all. And after chatting with many of my friends who revealed envy or jealousy about what we had done, the fear of not being able to earn an income was a major response to my question of “well why don't you do it too?”.
For others who have transferable jobs, such as tradesman etc. there was also the aspect of not wanting to go though the whole move just so that they can work just as much in the new location and defeat the purpose of being there in the first place.
So what will this site do?
This site is aimed at assisting with those issues highlighted above. When we first moved down to the coast, we opened a Pilates studio – it was hard work at the start but has settled now into a nice lifestyle. I love the studio and what it gives us now in terms of lifestyle but I also had a nagging need in the back of my mind. I wanted to try my hand at making money online. I now work from home 3 days per week and work on my own time via an affiliate marketing website and make some very good money. This is the journey that we will cover within this site.
What is affiliate marketing?
Affiliate marketing is the process of creating a website to sell the products of others to earn commissions. You can create these websites in any subject (niche) from sporting goods to cooking equipment to online tutoring for school kids. The sky really is the limit. In short, you find a subject, you write about it, people read about it and buy the product, you make a commission. Here is an example.
A mother wants to buy soccer boots for her child so she goes online and searches for “Best soccer boots for children”. She sees your site where you have eloquently written a review on the best soccer boots for kids. She reads your review, chooses the best one and clicks on your purchase link where she is sent to the manufacturer or retailer who sells her the shoes – and delivers them. You are then paid a commission by the seller/manufacturer for the referral. That is affiliate marketing.
Is it hard to do?
Yes and No. By yes, I mean there are no get-rich-quick schemes, and this is certainly not a site that will give you one. Affiliate marketing takes hard work, consistency and most in the field do not start to see any income for at least 3 to 6 months with no real sustainable income for at least 12 months. Neither is it a pyramid scheme (although some
Multi Level Marketing (MLM) programs do come close) or a scam . It is legitimate selling of the products you choose to sell – you just have to work hard at the start to sell them.
Let's revisit our example above – go to a search engine and enter “Best soccer boots for children”. How many sites are there? 1000s! That is why it takes time, you need to get your site noticed amongst all of the others. But here comes the No – as in no, it is not hard to do… Anyone can do it, and with time and work, you can succeed.
